New Wine Update

We've had a hectic but brilliant time at New Wine the church family event at Shepton Mallet in Somerset. The response to our new Ugandan campaign was tremendous, and we were delighted that the Archbishop of Uganda visited our stand and signed the petition to 'end child sacrifice'.

We were regularly featured on the radio and our Ugandan team members, Samuel Waako and Vincent Mugisha, were extremely popular. Someone driving to work locally, in Somerset, heard us on New Wine FM Radio talking about the petition we had launched to 'end child sacrifice'. He stopped his car, headed to the exhibition grounds, located our stand, and told Vincent, 'I heard you on the radio and was so moved that I had to come and find you. I must do something to help. Where's the petition?'

Our friends at Ethic Trade donated £200 in prizes for a Free Prize Draw open to all guests and delegates at new Wine. This was to celebrate the success of our new online fair trade shop. The winners have now been drawn and we’re pleased to announce them here:

1st prize £100 voucher to spend at our online shop goes to John Rowbotham of Aylesbury.
10 prizes of £10 vouchers will go to ten others.

Do browse our online shop. Please sign the online petition and encourage your friends and church to do the same.

Raising Concerns over Children at Risk

Letter in the The Independent Newspaper - Published 1 June 2010

In just more than a month, the 2010 World Cup in South Africa will end, and attention will turn to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The media have highlighted the considerable social problems South Africa has, in spite of all the investment in new stadiums, facilities and infrastructure, still faces. The strategy seems to have been to plaster over the poverty and misery. This must not be the case in Brazil.

Today marks International Children’s Day and while children in the UK may be dreaming of playing in the 2014 World Cup, for those in Brazil it could mean their nightmare continuing.

Tribute to Jessica

The shock of losing my beloved daughter Jessica, who died suddenly, aged just 22 years, has been like an earthquake in my heart and life.

Jessica and I were exceptionally close and I am grieving deeply, still in shock, and seeking God’s presence in a new way during this “winter season”.

Jessica was close by my side as we took up many campaigns and from an early age she enjoyed being part of the Jubilee team. I have been particularly touched by so many cards, messages and words of consolation that have been sent to Joan and me, and our family. I have read each one and been moved to tears by some; knowing that we have such good friends, some who pray for us daily, has meant so much. Each card and message is important to me and I am indebted to many friends who have taken time to share their own experience of this journey of grief.

Who says you can’t change the world?

[Extract Introduction]

It was late in the evening and Epsom’s multi-storey car park was deserted. We drove in a convoy up to the third level and pulled over in one of the empty bays. Fast Eddie was the first out and ambled over carrying a heavy silver case.

‘OK, this is it,’ he said. ‘Take off your clothes.’
