Important news – our campaign against child sacrifice in Uganda will be featured on BBC TV and I wanted to let you have details.
-
It is currently scheduled for broadcast on BBC TV News at 10pm on Tuesday 11 October – unless there’s a major breaking-news story on the day.
-
Assuming the story has run on BBC TV News, it will be followed on Wednesday 12 October by reports on the BBC News Channel, BBC Radio 4, local BBC radio stations, and a half hour documentary on BBC World, which literally does go around the world.
-
The BBC news coverage will feature our campaign and a new report on Child Sacrifice that we are publishing. The report will probably be the first of its kind, running to over 90 pages and will be available to download free on our website after the BBC’s broadcast.
We have worked intensely with journalist Chris Rogers over several months on this investigation, helped by our brilliant Ugandan partners from Kyampisi Childcare Ministries. Our hope and prayer is that such powerful TV coverage will bring a new awareness of this gruesome issue, and hopefully help to end it.

‘Dangerous Songs that Changed the World’ is an inspiring and memorable occasion to mark Anti-Slavery Day on Wednesday 19 October, and Lord Alton will launch the landmark event from the pulpit used by John Newton, the slave trader turned preacher and author of “Amazing Grace.” The meeting itself will be held at Holy Trinity Clapham, the church attended by William Wilberforce.
Lord Alton will be joined by the 100-strong South London Choir; Andy Flannagan, whose songs have been featured on TV and radio; multi-award winning New York Times photojournalist Hazel Thompson will explain why she believes her images have the power to bring change; and finally, Bill Hampson (my co-author of The Blood and the Blues) will join me in a (short) talk about how the music of slavery really did change the world.
I do understand that not everyone will be able to attend but we intend to record the program so if you would like a copy, send me an email confirming the address you’d like the CD to be sent to.
New Logo Finally – I hope you like our “new look.” Our current logo is based on a photograph taken by the celebrated photographer Dario Mitidieri, and over the years, we’ve been blessed to have talented professionals gift their work to us. People “see” different things in the new logo – let me know what you think.
