Jubilee Campaign has applied to become a charity

Jubilee Campaign has reached another milestone in its history – we have now applied to register as a charity. 

In the past, pressure groups like Jubilee Campaign were unable to benefit from charitable status, but recent changes in the law have lifted such restrictions and we have taken up this fantastic opportunity to apply for charitable status.

Jubilee Campaign, with consultative status at the UN, can now extend its mission and combine both lobbying and charitable action to help even more Children at Risk.

What the changes mean

1. Danny Smith will lead Jubilee Campaign. This ends his link with Jubilee Action.
2. Jubilee Campaign will continue strategic partnerships with Fr Shay Cullen’s Preda Foundation in the Philippines, and with Revd K. K. Devaraj’s Bombay Teen Challenge in India to help Children at Risk.
3. Jubilee Campaign will operate a memorial fund for Jessica Smith with charitable tributes in India, the Philippines and Zimbabwe.
4. Make sure your support is sent directly to Jubilee Campaign at its new address. Only support sent directly to Jubilee Campaign can be used. Please make cheques etc out only to ‘Jubilee Campaign’.

What we need you to do

A. Confirm your address details with Jubilee Campaign.
If you did not get a Special Edition of Just Right personally through the post but saw it at a friend’s house, at church, or online, it is because we have a temporary problem and do not have our address list – please contact us immediately and send us your full address details.

B. Update your records.
Make sure you have our correct contact details as we have moved – check details on our website.

C. Sign a new Gift Aid form for Jubilee Campaign.
Only these new Campaign Gift Aids forms are valid. We are unable to use any other Gift Aid form that you may have signed in the past.

D. Make sure donations go directly to Jubilee Campaign.
If not please fill in a new Standing Order form and post it directly to us at our new address. Only funds sent directly to Jubilee Campaign can be used by us. Jubilee Campaign needs your regular support. Please use the secure online donations service or write to us at our new address.

Breakthrough

Charity status for Jubilee Campaign hailed as successful breakthrough by Fr Shay Cullen
Fr Shay Cullen endorsed Jubilee Campaign’s decision to apply for charitable status and called on supporters to join the new movement to take the work forward.

‘I am delighted to get the good news that Jubilee Campaign will apply for charitable status after changes in UK law now allows pressure groups to become charities,’ Fr Shay said. ‘This is an important step forward for Jubilee Campaign in its fight for justice and will enable you to do so much more in the campaign for children’s rights around the world.’

Fr Shay Cullen’s Preda Foundation was Jubilee’s first partner and started working together in 1992 with Danny Smith to rescue sexually exploited children and release children from behind bars.  This important partnership will continue uninterrupted directly with Jubilee Campaign.  


Fr Shay Cullen, nominated three times for a Nobel Prize, recently won Ireland’s International Personality of the Year Award for 2008 at a live televised ceremony in Dublin. He was selected from hundreds of nominees worldwide for his outstanding work with the Preda staff in defending human rights and trafficked, exploited and abused women and children. He holds the award and is shown together with Olympic boxing champion and silver medal winner Kenny Egan – two award winning fighters.
